Tyson Construction

About Tyson Construction

The history of Tyson Construction started 15 years ago when Patricia Tyson and a partner started a residential construction company. They began building spec and custom houses in the Greater New Orleans area, primarily St. Charles Parish. As the company grew, they emphasized strict attention to detail in every aspect of the construction process and soon custom houses became their primary focus. After eleven years in the building business, they were responsible for the construction of more than one hundred homes in St. Charles, St. John and Jefferson Parishes.

In 2004, Larry Tyson, Patricia’s husband, took over Patricia's role in the company overseeing the construction of numerous homes from design planning to completion. Then Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana in August, 2005, flooding thousands of homes in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Soon after the storm, Larry formed the company that today is Tyson Construction. With this enormous natural disaster came an urgent need to repair homes as well as lives. Tyson Construction began renovating storm damaged houses in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes and has helped many families return home. With this increased workload, Larry turned to his son, Zachary, who had recently graduated college. Zach has helped the company from overseeing jobsites to creating new marketing and media ideas.

Tyson Construction has treated these storm renovations with the same attention to detail and care as in the new construction process. Although the need for renovations in New Orleans remains strong today, the company has returned to custom homebuilding as well. Looking ahead, Tyson Construction is firmly committed to both new construction and renovations.

Larry Tyson graduated from L.S.U. Baton Rouge with a degree from the College of Business. For the next thirty-three years, he worked in the financial industry and rose from the position of loan officer to president of a local commercial bank. During this time, much of his efforts were centered in residential lending, especially construction and permanent financing of homes. In December, 2003, Larry retired from banking and entered the residential construction business. In addition to Tyson Construction being a licensed residential contractor in the State of Louisiana, Larry also holds a state inspector’s license. Because of his financial background in the financial industry and the fact that he holds an inspector’s license, Larry brings a unique perspective to his homebuilding company.

Zachary Tyson, son of Patricia and Larry Tyson, is 24 years old and a recent graduate of Loyola University New Orleans. While at Loyola, he majored in Marketing and also received a minor in Entrepreneurship. Zach brings energy and enthusiasm to the family business and has been thoroughly involved in every aspect of the day-to-day operations. While working for Tyson Construction, Zach has overseen the complete renovation of several homes, including the purchase and renovation of his personal home and is also involved in the new construction process.
